Music: for Kids & Teens

Sarah McLaughlan School of Music

purpose

The purpose of the music program is to teach children and youth with autism basic vocal and percussive skills in a safe and supportive environment.

Program Structure

Each lesson is 45 to 60 minutes long, once per week, for a duration of nine months (October-June), including three tentatively scheduled performances. In addition to regularly scheduled classes, participants are expected to attend all scheduled performances. Canucks Autism Network is excited to present this introductory program with the Sarah McLachlan School of Music, who will provide classroom space in their music school, as well as instruments for each participant. The Sarah McLachlan School of Music will also provide a music instructor and assistant to lead each class. Participants will also be supported by support workers and volunteers provided by CAN. Participants in this program will participate in group lessons intended to provide an introduction to choral style singing and the use of basic percussion instruments.
