We CAN Be Friends
title

The Canucks Autism Network (CAN) is launching its elementary school initiative We CAN Be Friends in thirty five schools throughout the province this year. The program seeks to encourage friendship, empathy and inclusion among children with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) and their peers.

We CAN Be Friends has the potential to profoundly impact ASD learners, main-stream students, teachers, parents, and the communities they call home. Interactive lesson plans, activities and sensory lab experiences foster awareness and understanding about the unique challenges that face children with ASD and how they can help ensure that inclusion becomes a core component of the classroom for all learners.

An integral element of We CAN Be Friends  is providing support to selected schools through the CAN Ambassador Volunteer Program. CAN Ambassadors have teaching experience and are comfortable working in the classroom environment with students. We ask that those interested in becoming a CAN Ambassador provide a 6 month (January to June, around 8 hours a month) commitment to the program a cover letter and resume detailing their teaching experience and their interest in the program.
