Online programs for participants 7-12 years

Virtual Programs for Children

Children's (7-12yrs) virtual programming provides children with autism and their siblings a fun opportunity to interact through the online meeting platform Zoom. Coaches are able to connect with participants in real-time, to teach new, fun, and interactive lessons.

Children’s virtual programs are online programs that provides children with autism and their siblings a fun introduction to the world of physical activity and social interactive games. Participants will play games and learn movement skills while practicing listening, transitions and taking turns.

Using the free Zoom app (an online meeting platform), coaches will be able to connect with participants in real-time, teaching lessons in a fun, new and digital environment.

 

Virtual Programs

Art Club

  • An opportunity for children on the autism spectrum to get together on zoom and participate in a range of art activities in a safe and supported environment
  • Registered participants will receive an equipment kit which includes supplies to make your own crafts at home

Car Club

  • An opportunity for children on the spectrum to get together on zoom and participate in a range of activities related to the theme of cars
  • Registered participants will receive an equipment kit that will elevate the online experience of learning more about cars and playing fun car-themed games

Challenger Baseball in Partnership with Jays Care (7-12 years)

  • Opportunity for children with autism and their siblings to try virtual baseball in the comfort of their home
  • Confirmed participants will receive an adapted Challenger Baseball Equipment Kit
  • Weekly program provides participants with the opportunity to learn baseball skills, make new friends, have fun, and build confidence

Drama Club

  • An opportunity for children on the spectrum to get together on zoom and participate in a range of drama activities like making your own commercial and charades
  • Guided by experienced CAN coaches, children will participate in fun drama games, make friends and socialize in a safe and supported environment

Drawing Club

  • An opportunity for children with autism to get together on Zoom and participate in a range of activities related to drawing
  • Registered participants will receive an equipment kit, which includes a sketchbook and drawing tools, that will elevate the online experience of being creative

Meet Up (9-12 years)

  • Opportunity for children with autism to get together online, build social relationships, and have a good time
  • Weekly program has participants enjoy a variety of fun activities while getting know each other

Movement (7-12 years)

  • Opportunity for children with autism and their siblings to have a fun introduction to the world of physical activity and social interaction games
  • Weekly program includes participants playing games and learning movement skills while practicing listening, transitions, and taking turns

Siblings Meet Up (9-12 years)

  • Opportunity for siblings of participants with autism to get together and connect on Zoom
  • Weekly program has participants enjoy a variety of fun activities while getting to know each other

Sports Samplers Series with Pacific Sport Fraser Valley (PSFV)

  • The weekly program in partnership with Pacific Sport Fraser Valley, will provide children and youth autism the opportunity to try ringette, golf and field hockey in the comfort of their own homes.
  • Registered participants will all receive an adapted equipment kit from Pacific Sport Fraser Valley
  • This program will provide experiences for children with autism to make new friends, have fun and build confidence through activities online

Science Club

  • An opportunity for children with autism to get together on zoom and participate in a range of science experiments and activities
  • Registered participants will receive an equipment kit with their own science notebook to keep track of all of the experiments
  • Guided by experienced CAN staff, children will participate in fun games, make friends and socialize in a safe and supported environment

Program Stucture & Supports Provided

  • This program is delivered online through the free Zoom app
  • Participants are lead through different activities virtually by a CAN staff member, while being supported at home by a parent/guardian/caretaker
  • Each session consists of a 45-60 minute lesson, once per week, for six weeks
  • Each lesson has up to 15 participants taking part virtually

As this will be a learning experience for us all, you can expect to see us adapt our content along the way to best suit the online platform and the needs of our participants

  • In-person support for these programs must be provided by a parent/guardian/caretaker who is present for the duration of each online lesson
  • An additional CAN staff member will be present and act as a moderator to provide technical support and answer questions

Program Criteria

  • Programs vary between Ages 7-12 and 9-12 years. Please see specific program for details. Must be of correct age on program start date
  • Have an autism diagnosis and an active CAN Membership
  • Siblings are welcome to register alongside their sibling with autism (if age requirement is met)
  • Individuals across the autism spectrum are welcome to take part
  • Commitment to attend session on a weekly basis
  • Parent/guardian/caretaker must be present for the duration of each online lesson

Late registration is being accepted for the following programs:

Baseball (7-12yrs) | Mon, 4:00-4:45pm or 5:00-5:45pm, Jan 25-Mar 8
Meet Up (9-12yrs)* | Wed, 5:00-5:45pm, Jan 27-Mar 3
*For children on the spectrum only. No siblings.
Sibling Program (7-12yrs)* | Tue, 5:30-6:15pm, Jan 26-Mar 2
*For siblings of individuals on the spectrum only.
Multisport (7-12yrs)* | Sat, 9:30-10:15am, Jan 23-Mar 6
*Ringette, golf, field hockey
Multisport (7-12yrs)* | Sat, 10:30-11:15am, Jan 23-Mar 6
*Rugby, basketball, volleyball

CAN members can submit late registration requests by emailing [email protected] with the following information:
1. name and age of participant
2. program, date and location that you are requesting late registration for

*Submitting a late registration does not guarantee a program spot. Requests will be taken in the order that they are received.
